Starting 2015 off with a giveaway!
I was planning one of those introspective posts that are so popular at the start of a new year, but I have the rest of my life to subject myself to analysis. Instead, I’m giving away two vintage aprons! Here they are:
DIY: Christmas tree yo-yo garland
I love fabric yo-yos. I’ve made them for years and I use them to make table covers and decorative throws. I decided to use all my older yo-yos to make a garland for my Christmas tree, and I finally got it done tonight. Continue reading “DIY: Christmas tree yo-yo garland”
DIY: Processing my herbal apothecary
Back in early September, not long after we moved out here, I ordered a bunch of dried herbs, including Dandelion Root, Devil’s Claw Root, Feverfew, Peppermint, Oatstraw, and several others from Mountain Rose Herbs so that I could try out different herbal tinctures. Well, it’s been about 8 weeks so it was time for me to process those batches. Read on for more information on how to do it and what these herbs are used to treat.
When You’re a Country Girl (memoirs)
Running barefoot in the morning grass, the freshly-cut blades sticking to your feet. Mom won’t let you back into the house until you’ve sprayed your feet with the water hose but, even after the grass is all gone, the bottoms of them stay green for a full day.
Spending most of your afternoon standing in the cool shade of the old oak tree, unable to take your eyes away from the tiny little green frog that’s been clinging to the bark. (You name him Phil.)
Quick and Easy Flatbread Pizza with Lamb
We’re blessed to live down the street from a major farmers market, and last fall, I purchased several pounds of ground lamb. Tim refuses to eat it so it’s taken me a while to get through it all, but since he was away for the weekend, I decided to put it to good use.
The following was quick, easy, and completely delicious. Use what you have on hand, but if you have some lamb, definitely try it out this way!
Takin’ the plunge
After four years of wishing and wanting and hem-hawing around, I’m finally taking the plunge to seriously study herbalism. Continue reading “Takin’ the plunge”
Homemade Deodorant Powder
Today’s mass market deodorant is full of aluminum, perfume, and a dozen other unpronounceable ingredients. If you’re like me, your body has said, “Nope, no way!” and it’s gone on strike, leaving you with red, itchy armpits that are only soothed by a rough scrubbing in the shower. Also, if you really are like me, you’ve tried the natural stuff, too – the Tom’s, the crystal – and have ended up with the same angry pits. So where do you go from there?
