As a writer, do you have daily word count goals for yourself? I work full-time and have a home life so I’m trying to find a manageable per-evening word goal for myself. Right now, I’m settling on 500 words each evening and on the weekends, at least 5k words total for the two days. What are your goals? Are mine realistic?
Good for you!!
I do not have a word count. I vary my writing goals based on what I am currently working on. Some days my goal is to do a blog entry. Others, to finish a short story. And other days to I may have a word or chapter count based on what I’m working on in my novel. I try to do something writing related 5 out of 7 days a week.
I think word count depends on what you are writing, but yours is not unrealistic. I used to go by a count, but now I do topics instead so I pick one and write it all day in my head then dump the words on the page later.
You know, it’s funny, everyone has different goals. Some writers are faster than others, and then there are some days I have to focus more on editing, so unless I’m doing revisions, word count isn’t so much of a focus for me. I think more about the quality of what I’m writing or what it is I want to describe. One of my two manuscripts requires me to go back and listen to different interviews. Once I return to the page, I start translating what it is my interviewee means to say into a beautiful sentence. It really depends, but I think if you are working full-time, 500 words is a good goal.
